Data Recovery

Often times the only thing that is worse than getting your phone wet is realizing you lost your data. Data is often lost in liquid damages phones, because usually the phone will have an LCD problem, or wont power up at all. If ether of these occurs, you wont be able to view any of your data.

When considering a liquid damage phone, its hard to estimate the chances of recovery over the internet. I really have to see it, in order to confirm if the data can or can not be recovered. Each liquid damage case is different,

Variables that make each case different include:

  • Amount of liquid that entered the phone (the more liquid that gets in, the higher the number of circuits that are effected)
  • Location of the liquid (if a minor circuit got wet, you will have a minor problem, maybe even no problem at all. If its a major circuit that got wet, you will experience major problems, such as an LCD problem, power problem, or maybe even low reception.
  • Power- the longer the phone is powered on or hooked up to a power source, the lower the chances of recovery are. It is not the liquid that causes permanent damage- its the oxidation that causes the short out, mixed with electricity. Power should only be redelivered to the circuit after it has been professionally cleaned by a liquid damage technician.

So given that info, you may now understand its impossible for me to know if I can or cant not recover your phone's data without looking at it in person and attempting the repair.

Not to worry, unlike most liquid damage repair centers, if we can NOT recover the data, we are NOT going to charge you a whole lot of money. (Most liquid damage centers have a flat fee, whether the recovery was successful or not- because after all, it takes the same amount of time for the technician to process the circuit board whether or not the repair is successful). For example if we spend 1 hour 30 minutes on disassembly, cleaning, and retesting and reassembly, whether or not the phone ends up working, still a total of 1:30 was spent on it. But if we can not recover the data that you originally requested, we only charge you a $13.85 processing fee which covers the cost of all labor, and return shipping. If we successfully recover the data, we will let you know the total cost. Usually for an average phone, we charge $25 for data recovery. If its a more advanced phone, the cost can be around $35, to $45. Email me with your phones model number, and I can give you a closer estimate.

Data we may be able to recover includes:

  • Contact list (phone book)
  • Ring tones
  • Wallpapers
  • Pictures
  • Videos
  • Recent call history
  • Text messages

We put the data on a CD and send it back with the phone. We typically store all data in a secure location for at least 1 (one) year, incase you ever lose it. We will email you a backup copy of your data at no charge if you ever need it. If you specifically do not want us to store your data, please let us know and we will securely delete the files after the cd is burned.

We also recover data from computer hard drives. Contact us for more information.
